Revamp, restore, and rejuvenate your skin without the risks and side effects of traditional facelift procedures with Ultherapy by New York City’s Dr. Leslie Gerstman.
What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy, a popular treatment in NYC, is a system manufactured by Ulthera, Inc., which uses ultra-focused ultrasound to lift the skin. It draws on the same ultrasound principles physicians have trusted for decades. With ultrasound energy, it can lift and tighten the skin on the face and around the neck in a short, 30-minute procedure.
How Ultherapy Works
The ultrasound stimulates the generation of collagen, and makes the connective tissue tighter at a deeper level than non-surgical treatments. It also allows us to see the underlying connective tissue in the skin, so we can deliver targeted energy with the optimal temperature, depth, and precision in the right regions.
Unlike other facelifting methods, Ultherapy is the only non-invasive cosmetic procedure that targets the deeper layers of the skin. This FDA-approved procedure does not disrupt or cut the surface of the skin. In fact, it naturally and gradually rebuilds the supportive collagen fiber network within the skin.
A full-face treatment will take around 45 minutes to 60 minutes, while a partial will take around 30 minutes. Because it is a non-invasive treatment, patients can resume their regular activities or come to work immediately after the treatment.
Some of the possible results with Ultherapy are:
• Higher eyebrows
• Tighter jaw line
• Smoother neck
• Tighter chest, abdomen, arms, and knees
The results of the treatment look absolutely natural, with noticeable improvements as soon as two weeks after treatment. It works for 3 to 6 months – and sometimes even longer. Occasionally, patients come in for touch-ups after a year or two.

Are there any side effects associated with Ultherapy?
It is possible that you’ll experience mild side effects a few hours after the procedures. Take note that bruising and numbness are also common for patients with hypersensitive skin. However, the swelling, tenderness, and tingling sensations will subside in the next couple of days.
Can I get back to the office immediately after the procedure?
Because Ultherapy is a non-invasive and non-surgical procedure, you can get back to your daily routine as soon as you leave our office. In spite of the fact that the treatment doesn’t involve any special post-procedure measures, we recommend our patients to avoid prolonged sun exposure.
Does Ultherapy stimulate collagen production?
As we grow older the naturally occurring collagen in the skin gradually loses its elasticity and the ability to keep the skin firmed and toned. The role of the ultrasound energy directed underneath the skin’s surface is to stimulate the production of collagen. Ultherapy jumpstarts this process and thanks to the fresh collagen, your skin starts lifting and toning over time.
How is Ultherapy different from surgery?
Facelift surgery implies cutting the surface of the skin, removing some fat tissue and then gently lifting and re-positioning it so it looks tighter and firmer. On the other hand, Ultherapy can help you obtain similar skin tightening and firmness without damaging the surface of the skin.
How long does a treatment session last?
Based on each patient’s skin characteristics, a complete Ultherapy treatment session – full face and neck treatment – can last between 60 and 90 minutes. In the event that you request a partial treatment, then the procedure won’t last longer than 30 minutes.
How many treatments do I need to see results?
More often than not, our patients have obtained the desired results after only one treatment. However, because each patient responds differently to the treatment, it is possible that you will need to undergo additional Ultherapy sessions in cases of severe skin laxity. Rest assured that after the initial consultation, Dr. Gerstman will be able to recommend you a treatment plan and provide you with an estimate regarding the overall cost of the procedure.
How soon will I see the results?
Most patients have noticed improvements immediately after the treatment. However, the ultimate lifting and toning are usually visible two to three months following the procedure. In most cases, the production and replacement of collagen will continue for up to six months following the treatment. Therefore, you should expect a more youthful, toned and firm skin for months to last.
Is the procedure painful?
Thanks to recent software updated and released by the manufacturer, the level of pain and discomfort you might feel during the procedure are considerably reduced. Nevertheless, patients have reported feeling a tingling sensation or a mild pinching, which is nothing more than the focused ultrasound pulses deposited beneath the skin surface. It is important to note that the aforementioned sensation constitutes the initiation of the collagen stimulating process. Since we are aware that the pain threshold varies from patient to patient, Dr. Gerstman can recommend numbing injections or oral anesthetics to make the whole experience as comfortable as possible.
Is Ultherapy a safe procedure?
Ultherapy has received the green light from the FDA after its safety and effectiveness has been proven over several clinical studies. In addition, we want to underline the fact that ultrasound energy has been in the medical field for over 50 years because of its reliability and effectiveness.
What areas can be treated with Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is a treatment mainly performed on the face and neck. However, clinical studies have shown that it is safe to perform the treatment on the chest, back, around the knees, and under the arms as well. For further details, you should discuss your options with Dr. Gerstman. Check out our Ulthera before and after photos to see what kind of results others have experienced.
What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is a non-surgical treatment that tones and lifts saggy skin using ultrasound pulses. In spite of the fact that the procedure doesn’t replace the conventional facelift, it is still an efficient option for people who aren’t ready for surgery or who want to lengthen the effects of cosmetic facelifts. Because one of the roles of the procedure is to stimulate the production of collagen, you should expect to see the first results two to three months after the treatment.
Who can benefit from Ultherapy?
The ideal candidates for Ultherapy are women and men older than 30, although the treatment can also be performed on younger patients as well. Dr. Gerstman believes that anyone experiencing the symptoms of “maturing” skin – sagginess on the chin, neck and eyelids – could benefit a lot from undergoing the Ultherapy treatment.
Why choose Ultherapy over laser treatments?
Undergoing a laser treatment is also a good option if you want a toned, firm and smooth appearance of the skin. However, because laser treatments only act at the superficial layers of the epidermis, they are unable to provide satisfactory lifting results. Ultherapy works at the deep skin layers, promoting new collagen production and stimulating blood circulation. Consequently, since it addresses the foundational layers of the skin, it provides better and natural looking lifting results.
